Moscow, VDNH (nostalgic post)

I wanted to find photos of something warm and cozy when writing this post, but well… ) Autumn in Russia is warm enough. It was always my most favourite time of year, when trees turn red and yellow and some stay green, there are leaves on the grass everywhere. The winter is not there yet (cause you always know when it is there, not like in Ireland). Autumn in Russia is usually sunny, rarely rainy and overall – cozy. Dont know, maybe this is how I see it now, people tend to idealize things they had in the past, but I liked it.

I took those pictures when I was in Moscow last month, its still that exhibition area on the South of Moscow. The distances are huge there, if you look at the space between the pavilions – all Cork city center could fit in there) It was made for slow walks, bicycle rides. I bought my first roller blades there and tried them out in the same time. Good times)

This is the Ferris wheel that I took these pictures from.

Wish I could roller-blade :( I’ve yet to find a pair which would actually fit my dumb-ass elephantine feet! Nice pics – what’s “karellia?” (or however it’s spelled in roman letters)

It is Karelia indeed, how did you know? ) Its a http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Republic_of_Karelia , one of the republics in Russia. Most of the pavilions in this exhibition area are named by republics or any friendly to communism countries. So people from that countries and republics could show their local goods there. I think it’s a great idea to be honest, it’s a pity that right now the names are only the names.

I used to take Russian lessons – I forgot everything except “hello” and “Excuse me, where is the Bolshoi theatre please?” – I can still read cyrillic though… that’s not easy to forget! I’d never heard of this republic – gonna go read about it now!

It’s a very nice area actually, people use to go there for hiking, boat trips (there are lakes), hunting and so on. So it’s a resort area for people who prefer to keep it active.
