Fish and chips in Galway

A lot of people don’t like fish and chips. Even people who enjoy fish in general don’t like this dish because of the vinegar, or traditional coating full of oil. In Ireland they serve fish and chips pretty much everywhere, but it’s not everywhere the same. To get a real traditional meal you have to go to some takeaway, preferably old with long history – its the best guarantee to get fresh tasty fish. In good takeaways (Like Jackie Lennox) they wrap the meal in paper and don’t use plastic bags – it looks totally wild, but tastes so damned good.

This fish and chips we got in some pub in Galway, it was tasty, served with tartar sauce and pea puree.
It wasn’t that traditional battered fish, more like lightly dusted. I didn’t even feel guilty for eating it)

    “pea puree”

Dear God :/ What sort of fish was it? Cod is the best I think but it’s being overfished so much so there are some quite good alternatives these days.

I think it was cod, yes. You rarely can find anything else here, once I tried battered salmon and trout – wasn’t that tasty. I usually don’t like cod, but in this traditional meal its somehow on it’s place )
